Preveli - Plakias, Greece


Preveli - Plakias are located in southern Rethymno in Crete. The historic monastery of Preveli -st John Vaptist, founded in Middle Ages dominates in the area. Its role in the battle of Crete during WWII has been acknowledged and a town in Australia has been named after the monastery. In walking distance, one could explore the magnificent lagoon, known as Palm Beach, where a small river runs through planty of palm trees and falls into the blue sea.

Plakias is the main touristic resort of the area. Driving through the breathtaking Kourtaliotiko gorge, Plakias surrounded by great mountains to the north and the Libyan sea in the south. Its 1300 metre long sandy beach along with small beaches in the wider area, offers a unique escape route to local and thousands of tourists.
